Christine Hands is an independent dance artist currently earning her MFA in Dance at the University of Maryland.
Each artistic venture is a labor of love built with purpose and dedication.
Initially from the western suburbs of Chicago, Christine received her BFA in dance with honors and her BA in English from the University of Iowa. She spent some time working and teaching in London before dedicating 8 years in Chicago as a teacher, dancer, choreographer, and producer.
While in Iowa, Christine had the privilege of dancing for notable choreographers including David Dorfman. She was also a company member with Travelers Dance Company of Iowa City. In Chicago, Christine danced for a number of companies including Matter Dance Company and Renegade Dance Architects (of Chicago). She has appeared as a guest artist with Mordine and Company and Alliance Dance Company. Christine served as Associate Artistic Director of Core Project Chicago, producing performances in conjunction with local businesses as well as the Chicago Parks District. Most recently, Christine appeared in South African artist Mamela Nyamza's "Parks of Roses" at the University of Maryland.
Christine’s choreography has been presented onstage in a number of venues including Welcome to our World Vol. 2 with Creative Nests, at Going Dutch and Bonesbare Festivals with Core Project Chicago, at Dance Chicago, at Links Hall’s THAW, and with Tiffany Lawson Dance.
Nationally, Christine has presented her choreography with Living Arts in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her choreography has toured to St. Louis (Missouri), Kansas City (Kansas), Boulder (Colorado), Elgin (Illinois), and Asheville (North Carolina) with Core Project Chicago's Fringe Festival production, "Anecdotal."
In 2013, Christine produced a full-length work entitled "ICICLES" at the Chicago Fringe Festival. In 2016, Christine produced a full-length collaboration with visual artist John Mosher entitled "The Chromanauts" which will be remounted at Salisbury University in October.
In addition to performing and choreographing, Christine is a dedicated dance teacher, investing the majority of her energies to the education and growth of children from ages 2-infinity. She has taught as far abroad as England and has worked in Chicago Public Schools, toured in Chicago Public Libraries with Tiffany Lawson Dance, has coached winning dance competition teams, and has taught all over the city and suburbs of Chicago from the far suburbs to the inner city. She currently instructs at the University of Maryland and at Dance Matrix in Crofton, MD. She truly welcomes every curious student to investigate the art of dance.
Clayton Cross is originally from Midland, TX. In 2002, Clayton graduated from Texas Christian University with a B.F.A. in Ballet and Modern Dance. In 2004, Cross became a full company member with River North Dance Company and performed with the company for 9 seasons touring nationally and internationally to Germany, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. Leaving the Company in 2011, Clayton currently resides in Chicago where he teaches and choreographs nationwide for various dance studios, high schools, colleges, and independent dance companies such as M.A. Dance.
